The University of Alabama operates an academic outreach program at the Gadsden Center located at 121 North 1st Street Gadsden, AL 35901.  The Gadsden Center offers a number of academic classes held during the day, evening, and weekends.

Emergency services (police, fire, and medical) are provided by the city of Gadsden.  In the event of an emergency, dial 911 for help.  Be sure to state your name, the nature of the emergency, and your location.

Typically the Gadsden Fire Department and an ambulance company respond to medical emergencies.

 

Emergency Notification

The Gadsden Center handles its own emergency notification.  In the event of an emergency, Gadsden Center officials will notify its students, faculty, and staff through some or all of the the following means:

To receive the notification, students, faculty, and staff must provide their contact information within UA Alerts.

 

Suspension of Normal Operations

In the event of severe weather or other emergency, the Gadsden Director or designated staff may suspend normal operations and cease academic instruction.  Building occupants will be notified by direct contact, but depending on the time of day, students enroute to the campus may receive a UA Alert from Gadsden’s account.

NOTE:  Suspension of normal operations in Tuscaloosa does not necessarily suspend operations in Gadsden.  Please check the Gadsden Center website or contact them directly at 256-546-2886 or 1-888-223-4131.

 

General Information

The Gadsden Center Director and staff are dedicated to providing a safe learning environment.  Should an emergency occur, please exercise good judgement, take appropriate actions to provide for your safey, and report the incident to emergency officials (Gadsden Police/Fire).  The Gadsden Director, staff, and/or emergency officials will take action to mitigate the emergency.

The ready.ua.edu website has valuable information regarding possible campus emergencies.  Much of the information is applicable to the Gadsden Center with some minor exceptions:  Gadsden Police/Fire will respond to the emergency–not UAPD.  Additionally, the Gadsden Director and staff will make emergency notifications and initial decisions to provide for the safety of students, faculty, and staff.  Should you have a question regarding your safety or what to do in an emergency at the Gadsden Center, please contact the Gadsden Center Director or staff at 256-546-2886.
