In a severe weather or natural hazard event, the University may issue advisories or suspend normal operations and activities based on the potential threat. The primary severe weather threats/natural hazards for Tuscaloosa include:
- Tornadoes
- Severe Storms (including Winter Weather and Hurricanes/Tropical Storms)
- Earthquakes
- Floods
All have the potential to cause harm or damage and should be taken seriously. Please be familiar with UA’s Severe Weather Guidelines and be prepared to move to safety if severe weather occurs. The University has a number of protocols in place to receive severe weather information and to warn the campus community.
The University constantly monitors the weather and has direct communication with the National Weather Service in Birmingham, Tuscaloosa EMA, and access to on-site meteorologists. Should a hazard develop, Public Safety will initiate the notification process.
